Welcome to my first grade class. I am very excited about our new school and our new classroom. Our hallway is called Ocean Boulevard, and all first grade teachers have decorated our rooms to reflect the ocean theme. Our classroom is the dolphin room!
We also have an exciting and innovative new reading series this year. I will be focusing on vocabulary, reading, writing, and math. Our phonics is called LiPS. You will be amazed at how well your child will be able to manipulate letters and sounds to form new words. Watch for homework each night with our sight word program called Seeing Stars.

Another reading program is our Accelerated Reading Program. I strongly believe the more your child reads the better reader they become! Each night your child will bring home a library book. At first you may read the book to your child, next your child will read the book with you, and very soon your child will be reading the book TO YOU!!! They will then take a computerized comprehension test on the book to earn points. Athough this is a daily part of my curriculum, I do offer prizes and incentives to encourage participation in this program.


Once again, we will be doing Harcourt Math which encompasses all the skills your child will need to succeed in first grade. I will be doing math groups and math centers as much as possible. I believe in learning through games and hands-on activities.
